Seriously, these things level up so fast compared to something like a ballista or flamethrower and you'll notice checking on its damage from time to time that it'll just have gained 2 or 3 levels when you weren't looking. If you find yourself absolutely melting bosses but struggling vs waves, especially late game, try demolishing like 20 of your ballistas (or lookouts or whatever it is that's 'deleting' your bosses) and just build a few radar towers, then dump all the money you saved into more AOE. I think my most reliable strategy is ballistas, poison sprayers and radar. 3 or so radar towers is enough to cover your boss waves for the rest of the game, meaning you can spend all of your remaining money on reliable AOE towers like poison sprayers and flamethrowers. Those gave me a lot of respect and helped me understand the strengths & weaknesses of each tower so it's easier to just go with the flow and use the cards that come when I need that damage type.
